What is salvation?

What It Isn't

Salvation is not EARNED.
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness, which we have done, but according to His mercy he saved us.

Salvation is not  INHERITED.
John 1:12-13
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

What It Is

Salvation is GIVEN.
God GAVE His Son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice for our sin.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotton Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Salvation is through REPENTANCE.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God
Mark 2:17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Acts 20:21  Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Salvation is RECEIVED.
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.
Romans 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Salvation gives LIFE.
John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

John 10:28  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
1John 5:13  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Salvation is our PARDON.
Romans 4:7  Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
Ephesians 4:32  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
